Make a shelter pup’s weekend by taking them home while they wait for their spot on our clinic’s spay/neuter schedule.

Give a shelter dog a cozy weekend away from the kennel with our Slumber Party Weekend foster program!
Perfect for animal lovers who want to help—but can’t commit long-term—this short-term foster opportunity gives dogs a calm place to relax while they wait for their spay or neuter surgery.

Think cuddles, naps, and a quiet break from the shelter—all while making a huge difference.

What is Slumber Party Weekend?

Slumber Party Weekend is a Friday–Monday short-term foster program for dogs who are behaviorally and medically cleared, but are temporarily waiting for a spay or neuter surgery due to limited surgical space.

Instead of staying in a kennel all weekend, these dogs get to enjoy:

  • A peaceful home environment
  • Extra love and attention
  • Reduced stress before surgery

It’s a win-win for dogs and fosters!

Which dogs are eligible?

Each Friday afternoon, a small number of eligible dogs will be added to our foster page under Needs Foster with a special kennel memo:

“Slumber Party Weekend Foster needed. Needs foster over the weekend while awaiting surgery on ____.”

These dogs:

  • are cleared medically and behaviorally, and have at least their first round of vaccinations
  • just need to wait a few extra days for surgery

How can I participate?

Getting started is easy!

  1. Complete a Dog Foster Interest Form
Fill out our foster interest form online before coming in.

  5. Enjoy the weekend together
Provide a safe, loving home until it’s time for the dog to return for surgery.

What’s included?

Each Slumber Party Weekend foster will go home with:

  • Leash and harness, collar with tag
  • Food and feeding instructions
  • Any medications or special care notes
  • A Slumber Party supply bag to make the weekend easy

When do dogs return?

Dogs will return to the shelter after the weekend so they can:

  • Be admitted for their scheduled spay/neuter surgery
  • Continue on their path toward adoption

Exact return instructions will be provided at pickup.

Foster Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must have an approved foster interest form on file

Why it matters

A quiet weekend in a home can dramatically reduce stress, improve well-being, and help dogs stay healthy before surgery. Even just a couple of nights makes a big difference.

You’re not just hosting a sleepover—you’re helping a dog take the final steps toward adoption.

Help your foster dog find a home faster by sending photos and videos of your slumber party to [email protected]. We will add them to the dog’s profile and share on social media if it fits the social schedule.
