What To Expect

Each week of camp will be devoted to a different age group spanning first through sixth grade.
During a typical day at the week-long H.E.R.O. Summer Camp, children will participate in presentations, games, crafts, and more. Each day will focus on different types of animals, many with visitors – two-legged, four-legged, scaled, and feathered – from other animal welfare groups in Utah. Campers will receive at minimum half an hour of animal interaction each day, which may include viewing, petting and/or holding.

Registration for summer camp includes access to camp photos, a t-shirt, and special animal interactions. Lunch is not provided

Please note that our camp curriculum is similar each year.

Questions about H.E.R.O. Camp?

Please check out our Camp Handbook for answers to frequently asked questions such as camp policies and expectations, pickup and drop-off policies, reasonable accommodations, and more.

Animal Interactions

Children may have the chance to interact with animals such as dogs, cats, small mammals, birds, reptiles, and farm animals. Interactions with animals may include observing, petting, playing, training, or holding.

The goal of HSU is to provide children with an enriching learning experience while ensuring safety at all times for the campers and the animals. We strive to achieve 30 minutes of animal interaction daily – this is subject to change depending on availability. Campers will interact with both shelter population animals and educational ambassador animals.

Allergies

Camp is not recommended for children with allergies to pets, pet dander or nuts. Camp is held in a facility that houses more than 100 dogs and cats. Dogs are given peanut butter daily and many treats contain nut allergens. For this reason, we do not recommend that children with these allergies attend camps at HSU.
