Benny's Story

I adopted Benny about two years ago. He was so timid and skittish. He was afraid of people and other dogs. He'd flinch when you went to pet him. He didn't know how to play with toys. With love and patience, Benny has become the dog he was always meant to be and I'm grateful to have him in our family. He loves snuggles, playing fetch, learning new tricks, and going to doggy day care. As you can see from the video here, he especially loves being picked up from doggy day care.

Winky's Story

My boyfriend and I decided on a whim one day to come in and walk dogs. Before we left we ended up walking through the cats and "just looking". It only took me 3 days to decide I was going back for a kitty! When we came in to look we knew we were specifically looking for a black cat since they have such a hard time being placed into homes. We had 3 cats we were trying to choose from and decided to spend some time with one. We got the smallest most timid cat first and spent some quality time with her. We knew without a doubt that she was the one we wanted.

Chip's Story

I was able to have another family member come into our lives... His name is CHIP. He could not have been a better fit for our family and my other dog Saydee. We love him so much and it has only been 2 days. Thank you very much for allowing us to have him.

Kenai's Story

I just wanted to update the HSU family on how Kenai, now more affectionately known as Kee. My sweet boy has amazed his vet with his ability to trust me. We were able to do x-rays of his back and hips while on his back with no sedative. I put him on the table and he laid his head back on my shoulder while I spoke to him in Gaelic. His vet said in his 20 years he had never seen such a thing. I knew when I saw this beautiful boy on the website and heard his story and that nobody would take a chance on him that he had to be mine.

Jacque & Jesper

In 2001 mom took us as a family to the Humane Society to look for a kitten as luck would have it we came home with two. We named them Sugar and Spice because they were both white and Sugar pure white with pink ears had the sweetest personality and Spice was super feisty with a little bit of orange they were bundles of joy and super healthy happy kittens until spice ate some plastic and had to have surgery when he was a couple years old.

Rosie's Story

We went to the shelter to "look" at dogs, but knowing me, of course I was going to get one. We went in and looked at all the big dogs, all of them very very cute, but right when we got to June (her name was Rosie at the time) we knew she was the one. We took her out on a walk and I sat on the grass and she just plopped down next to me and I immediately started crying. I was so happy when we got her. At first, her fur was kind of gray and frizzy and dead, she was very scared, she wouldn't eat, and she was very quiet.

Hooch's Story

We adopted out senior, Hooch, almost a year ago. He's the best dog and so sweet. He loves his brother and sister kitties too. I'm so glad he is part of our family.

Max's Story

This is Max. When we adopted him he was a skinny 60lbs and his fur was in mats and had to be shaved. But with lots of love and plenty of naps on his new warm bed he has gained healthy weight and loves every second of his forever home!

Face's Story

I was terrified of dogs since forever. However, at 6 my parents adopted Jack for me. After a quick name change, Face and I became fast friends. I got over my fear of dogs, and Face became my best friend.
