The Humane Society of Utah's (HSU) Community Outreach department is responsible for all off-site adoption and informational events. Every weekend—Friday, Saturday and Sunday—this department visits a variety of pet stores, other locations and community events to spread the importance of choosing adoption first. Check our our Events Calendar to find out where the Outreach Department will be next.
By bringing animals and informational materials into public spaces, we can address people that would otherwise never have visited a shelter. Research has shown that many people are reluctant to visit animal shelters due to a perceived sadness of a shelter environment. The off-site adoption process allows these people to see pets in a more intimate and comfortable environment. Some people are also overwhelmed by the large selection of animals to choose from in a shelter. At off-site adoption events, potential adopters might find it easier to choose from a smaller selection of animals.
If you are interested in hosting an off-site adoption event, please fill out the Outreach Adoption Event Application. If you have questions, please feel free to email or call Caitlin Lisle, Outreach Manager, firstname.lastname@example.org or (801) 261-2919 ext. 234.
