HSU discounts big dogs July 20-24 and continues cat deals through July
The Humane Society of Utah will be offering $47 adoption fees for dogs 30 pounds and over July 20-24 to celebrate the Days of ’47. The shelter will be open for adoptions Friday, July 24, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.located at 4242 South 300 West in Murray, Utah. A list of available animals may be found at www.utahhumane.org.
As a member of the No Kill Utah Coalition, the Humane Society of Utah is working hard to maintain its no-kill goals and find homes for all felines at the shelter amid the intake of kittens and owner-surrendered cats. Adoption fees have been waived for cats one year and older during July. The adoption fee for kittens has also been reduced to one for $50 or two for $70.
“We’re barely keeping our heads above water, so to speak,” said Jessica Almeida, HSU transfer director. “The number of cats we’re receiving is slightly higher than the number we’re currently adopting out and our facility is over capacity.”
A total of 257 cats have been received and 192 have been adopted since the first of July. During the recent month of June, the HSU received 515 felines and adopted out 400.
The high intake number of cats during the summer months is attributed to unwanted litters of kittens. The Humane Society of Utah urges all pet owners to spay or neuter their animals.
All animals adopted from the Humane Society of Utah are spayed or neutered by our in-house veterinarians, given their first set of vaccinations, dogs are microchipped, and new owners receive a free initial wellness exam certificate for use at a participating private veterinarian.
The shelter is also teeming with rabbits and has discounted the adoption fee to one for $20 or two for $30.
