CNN Features the Humane Society of Utah for National Puppy Day 2016!

Humane Society of Utah National Puppy Day

We have an amazing team at the Humane Society of Utah. It takes a lot of hard work from the staff and volunteers to save so many animals and do such great work, which is why we're proud to be recognized for our efforts by CNN on National Puppy Day March 23, 2016! We're grateful to our amazing photographer, Guinnevere Shuster, for helping to positively promote the image of shelter animals through her photography.

Cricket's Story

We adopted Cricket after losing our beloved beagle. We were looking for an older dog that was pretty calm and would love to go on walks. What we got is totally the opposite. When we walked in the door Cricket was in a pen doing her best to get out and something about her little face just called to us.
We have not had a puppy for 22 years so we must be a little crazy. Cricket is the happiest little dog, she is our constant shadow and wants to help with whatever we are doing.

Lucy's Story

I had wanted a little kitty for quite some time, but was never quite able to get one. Once the time finally came, I was so excited to go find a new friend at HSU! When I saw Lucy, I knew I had to bring her home. She was so timid, and even afraid. She was hiding in the corners of the room and didn't want to come out to say hi. But I knew I could help to make her life better so I adopted her right away. We got her trimmed and all cleaned up, but she was still very afraid for quite a while. She hid under the bed a lot, especially during the day.

WE’RE NOT GIVING UP ON GETTING RID OF THE GAS CHAMBER!

In the 2016 session of the Utah State Legislature, HB 187 — Animal Shelter Amendments failed to pass the House of Representatives by a vote of 40 to 31. HB 187 sought to ban the use of a gas chamber for euthanizing shelter animals and wildlife statewide. Despite passing the House Political Subdivisions Committee by a vote of 9 to 1 and the hard-fought efforts of the bill’s sponsor, Rep.

Henry's Story

I am currently a first year law student with a lot on my plate. I'm also a long-time dog lover, but I've never had my own. A couple of months ago I decided that adopting a furry companion was exactly what I needed to help ease the stress of school. On a whim, I contacted the Humane Society of Utah to see if there were any Pomeranians at the shelter. To my surprise, there was a four-year-old adoptable Pomeranian who had been found wandering South Jordan. From the moment I held Henry in my arms, I knew that I had met my new best friend. We're inseparable.

Adopt a rescued rabbit in February

MURRAY, UT (Feb. 4, 2016) -- Rabbits are the third most adopted pet at the Humane Society of Utah

To celebrate Adopt a Rescued Rabbit Month in February, the Humane Society of Utah is offering a special adoption fee of $10 for one rabbit or $15 for two. All rabbits are neutered or spayed, and HSU can help educate adopters on the proper equipment, care and training needed for their new pet bunny.

Rousette's Story

I adopted my sweet kitten, Rousette (formerly named Alice), from HSU about 2 weeks ago and I already cannot imagine my life without her. She is cute, friendly, well-behaved, and above all, my best friend. She improves my life in every way, and I could not be happier with my adoption.

Smoak's Story

My husband and I just bought our own home. We have always been around our parents' animals and we noticed we missed that love and companionship having an animal in the home brings. We decided to go look for a cat at the Human Society. This first cat we looked at ended up being the one who stole our hearts! She sat there so quietly and patiently and she was rated one of the best cats with kids!
