Receiving Animal Care Technician

This is a high-paced position dealing with a variety of animals that may be frightened, shy, aggressive, injured or ill. The incumbent will be trained in safe animal handling protocols and gain an understanding of animal body language. This staff member will quickly gain knowledge of all Humane Society of Utah policies, procedures and protocols. Although directly reporting to the Animal Care Manager, this position will also work closely with the Director of Shelter Operations to assist all departments and managers with daily activities to better help the life-saving efforts of the organization as a whole.

Employment Type: Full-time, $10/hour or DOE

  • Experience with and being comfortable handling a variety of animals.

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, stressful environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands.

  • Ability and willingness to learn and follow directions.

  • Must be a team player.

  • Patience with animals.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Cleaning habitation areas of our adoptable animals and cages/runs in the Receiving Department.

  • Moving to and setting animals up in the Adoption Center.

  • Feed and water all shelter animals.

  • Washing dishes and cleaning the Receiving kitchen.

  • Clean, stock and organize the bulk room.

  • Animal waste and garbage removal.

  • Emptying/unloading donations or orders.

  • Breaking up dog fights when necessary.

  • Helping at the Receiving desk when needed.

  • Helping put away the surgery animals and get walk-overs as needed.
