Position Title: Facility Maintenance Technician
Reporting To: Facility Manager
Compensation: $15.40-20/hourly DOE
Employment Type: Part-time, Non-exempt
- Position includes weekday, weekend and holiday hours requiring a flexible work schedule depending on needs.
- Hours and days are subject to change based on department demands.
Under the direction of the Facility Manager in all activities and responsibilities, the Facility Maintenance Technician will be responsible for performance of the regular maintenance, repairs, and upgrades of the Humane Society of Utah (HSU) property and equipment. This position is responsible for performing tasks in a wide variety of facility/equipment maintenance and repair occupational areas, including but not limited to HVAC, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing, as well as keeping the organization’s grounds/landscape presentable and tidy. This position is expected to function effectively both independently and cooperatively with staff and volunteers. This includes working closely with the Facility Manager to ensure timely and effective maintenance of our animal shelter.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving history.
- Experience with basic tools to perform basic maintenance and repairs such as snow removal, landscaping, plumbing, electrical and carpentry.
- Knowledge of building management, facilities and construction management.
- Experience using a work order ticketing system.
- Self-motivated and well organized, able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced work environment.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb and manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying temperatures and climates.
- Ability to work with animals of varying temperament in noisy conditions.
- Ability to work with cleaning materials.
- Ability to use strength and agility while working around active animals.
- Responsible for presenting a neat and professional appearance to the public at all times.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on buildings and facilities.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to buildings and facilities including carpentry, light plumbing and light electrical work.
- Coordinate and assist with the removal of snow/ice as needed.
- Coordinate and assist with grounds maintenance as needed.
- Coordinate and assist with both regular cleaning and special cleaning projects as needed.
- Coordinate maintenance and repairs to appliances including refrigerators and washing machines.
- Order parts and supplies as needed.
- Perform light vehicle maintenance (filling up tires, adding windshield wiper fluid and antifreeze, checking oil and transmission fluid) and schedule and take vehicles in to shop for required inspections and maintenance.
- Ensure all Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) is completed safely, cost effectively, on time and to a satisfactory standard.
- Ensure all systems are performing as optimally as possible to reduce operating cost.
- Regularly inspect buildings, sites and equipment for needed repair/maintenance.
- Coordinate with contractors or external suppliers and clearly communicate HSU safety, technical and contractual issues and standards.
- Interact with HSU program managers to effectively communicate all repair & maintenance concerns to the Facility Manager in a timely fashion.
- Investigate complaints regarding service and equipment, and take corrective actions.
- Treat all animals humanely, properly, and with compassion at all times, regardless of the situation or circumstance; promote a humane and caring attitude toward all animals at all times.
- Maintain positive relationships with co-workers, managers, executive staff, community pet owners, adopters and other stakeholders.
- Cheerfully acknowledge the presence of customers in all public areas, and interact with the public in a polite, professional, nonjudgmental manner at all times.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director, Resource Center Director, or Facility Manager.
