Halloween pet safety tips

Murray, UT (Oct. 22, 2019) — The Humane Society of Utah reminds pet owners to keep pets safe during holiday events
The Halloween season can be a scary time for pets. Holiday festivities may be stressful for furry family members, and the Utah Humane Society cautions pet owners to avoid taking their pet to public areas where moving decorations and scary sounds may cause them undue stress.  

Utah Humane Society expands clinic services to St. George

Murray, UT (Sept. 24, 2019) — Affordable spay and neuter services needed for pets in Washington County
The Utah Humane Society Board of Directors has approved the opening of an affordable spay, neuter, and vaccination clinic in St. George, Utah to help address the animal welfare needs of Washington County. The organization is actively seeking a full-time veterinarian and office space where the clinic can operate. Pending the hiring of a veterinarian and additional staff, the anticipated opening of the clinic will be in 2020.

Pet safety tips during July holidays 2019

Murray, UT (July 1, 2019) — Firework and summer safety tips for pet owners from the Humane Society of Utah (Utah Humane)
The Utah Humane Adoption Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, July 4 and Wednesday, July 24, 2019. All other departments will be closed.

Lost dog finds his way back to shelter

Murray, UT (June 19, 2019) — An adopted dog named Ned returns to Utah Humane after 11 days
The Humane Society of Utah (Utah Humane) works to find homes for over 10,000 pets annually. Ned, a 3-year-old Chihuahua mix, was adopted on June 8, 2019, and escaped his new home located near 5900 South and Van Winkle Expressway the same day. After missing for 11 days, Ned was found by staff members running outside the Utah Humane building early Wednesday morning on July 19.

Utah Humane announces new executive director

Murray, UT (May 31, 2019) —Gene Baiershcmidt retires after 31 years, replaced by Vaughn Maurice

The Humane Society of Utah (Utah Humane) introduced its new executive director, Vaughn Maurice, during the seventh annual Wags to Wishes gala on May 11, 2019. Maurice started the new position on April 15, replacing former executive director, Gene Baierschmidt.

After 31 years as executive director, Baierschmidt announced his retirement in November 2018. A national search was conducted and Maurice was selected by the Utah Humane board of directors.
