HUMANE SOCIETY ASKS FOR COMPASSION IN CASE OF MAN WHO MOVED SKUNK TRAP
On Thursday, January 8th, at 3:30 PM, trial will be held at the South Salt Lake City Court, 220 E. Morris Avenue (2430 South) for Ryan Turner, the man who last August moved a live-animal trap that had been set by city employees. The trap contained a live skunk which had apparently been caught during the night, but by the middle of the day the trap had become "an oven" when exposed to the direct summer sun, and Turner had moved the trap into the shade a few feet from its original location and given the animal water.

BITTER COLD WEATHER IS HERE — TAKE CARE OF PETS , SAYS HUMANE SOCIETY
Temperatures along the Wasatch Front are plunging into the teens, and the Humane Society of Utah again reminds the community that this means inconvenience, discomfort, and danger for EVERYONE, including the non-human members of the population. Animals' hair coats do not provide adequate protection against the bitter cold that will be punishing our area, and the Society urges people to use both common sense and compassion when it comes to the animals in their care.

WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT? DITCH YOUR DIET AND GO TO THE DOGS!
A recent study conducted by Dr. Rebecca Johnson of the University of Missouri at Columbia and published in Self magazine showed that people who want to lose weight should head for their local animal shelter and volunteer to walk the dogs there. (This suggestion was second on the list of three elements: the first was the common-sense advice to focus on healthful foods — high-fiber grains, fruits, and vegetables, for example; and the final item was to get more than six hours of sleep per night.)
