Dexter's Story
I am writing to share my story about my recent adoption from the Humane Society. You all do so much work, and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I want to especially send out a special thank you to Deborah, because without her things might have been different…
I had a dog named Ginger who passed away nearly two years ago, she was over 14 years old and I had her since she was a puppy. She was my best buddy and a wonderful part of my family, and when I lost her it was like losing a part of me.
I didn’t want to have another pet, because I wasn’t even sure if I was ready or able to go through it all again. It would have been unfair and wrong to adopt another pet to fill a void out of grief, instead of looking out for their best interest.
It took me quite awhile to accept my loss and to move on, and when I was ready to look for a new companion, I went to the Humane Society. I prefer adoption over any other method, because I like knowing that I can be the difference in whether a pet has a loving home or not.
I adopted Dexter a male Russian Blue mixed kitten in June 2009. He has grown into a beautiful sweet loving boy. I have learned a lot about cats, and have also learned that I lucked out with Dexter. He has the personality that everyone would look for in a pet. He loves being around people, very affectionate and social, he even gets along with other cats and dogs! He is very playful and likes watching TV, he doesn’t mind baths, or even being dressed up for holiday photos, but most of all he loves his food!
Since Dexter I have been less stressed and have been the happiest I can remember in a long time. I don’t come home to an empty house anymore; I come home to a loving friend and family member. He is my little angel; I don’t know what I would do without him now.
Thank you for all the work you do for the animals you care for each day, and for the people who love them!
Sincerely, - Patty Amthor
