HSU Holds "Empty the Cages" Adopt-A-Thon

PRESS RELEASE

RELEASE DATE: Immediately (September 8, 2005)

"EMPTY THE CAGES" ADOPT-A-THON
TO BE HELD AT HUMANE SOCIETY THIS WEEKEND

Starting tomorrow, Friday, September 9, at 3 PM, and continuing through the weekend until 5 PM on Sunday September 11, the Humane Society is hosting its second annual "Empty the Cages Adopt-a-Thon. The purpose of the event, says HSU Executive Director Gene Baierschmidt, is to get more of the shelter's healthy animals into good new homes than are currently being adopted. "While we're very pleased that we're already able to place between 80% and 90% of the adoptable animals here, we nevertheless feel that having to euthanize a single socialized, healthy, loving cat or dog is unacceptable. We're hoping that this special activity will, as its title says, 'empty the cages' at the Humane Society and put each of our furry residents in a good new permanent home of his or her own." Last year the Humane Society of Utah adopted out more than 6,000 pets to caring homes, and wants to exceed even that number in 2005.

The public is welcome to come to the Society's facility located at 4242 South 300 West to view a great selection of pets from 3-7 PM on Friday, 10 AM to 8 PM on Saturday, and noon to 5 PM on Sunday. People can enter drawings to win gifts and prizes, and prizes will be given out with every adoption.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to bring a new source of love, laughter, and loyalty into your family, and at the same time save a beautiful animal's life," says Mr. Baierschmidt. "We look forward to seeing a large turnout that really will empty all of our cages."
