HELP NEEDED FOR HURRICANE KATRINA'S ANIMAL VICTIMS!
In the wake of devastation variously described as "ghastly," "chaotic," and "incomprehensible" resulting from Monday's assault on the Gulf Coast by Hurricane Katrina, support is, mercifully, rapidly mobilizing for the thousands of persons left homeless, injured, hungry, and terrified by the storm's fury. In addition, the Humane Society of Utah has been inundated with calls from concerned local citizens who want to assist some of Katrina's victims who are least able to help themselves - the animals, both domestic and wild.
Fortunately, animal-protection organizations across the country are responding with remarkable speed and well-organized planning, but they need all the help they can get. Utahans can be a very important part of the rescue effort by supporting any of the legitimate groups who are participating in the huge effort. Fully-staffed veterinary teams, disaster-relief vehicles, and transport carriers are currently on their way from these organizations to New Orleans and other stricken areas, and thousands of animals have
already been relocated to shelters in Dallas, Houston, and Fort Worth. All these efforts have put a tremendous strain on the resources of the rescue agencies, and whatever help you can give will be deeply
appreciated!
