GOVERNOR HUNTSMAN TO CONDUCT CEREMONIAL

SIGNING OF ANIMAL-TORTURE BILL AT HUMANE SOCIETY

On Tuesday, April 8th, Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. will be present at the Humane Society of Utah for the ceremonial signing of SB 297, the law that will make the deliberate torture of a companion cat or dog a third-degree felony on the first offense. The ceremony will be held from 2:00 to 2:30 PM in the HSU auditorium located at 4242 South 300 West.

"We’re pleased and honored that the Governor has chosen our facility for this important activity," said HSU Executive Director Gene Baierschmidt. "He was very supportive of the issue throughout its development, and we deeply appreciate his willingness to recognize the far-reaching impact that the bill’s provisions will have on many different problems involving violence in or community ads a whole."
