HUMANE SOCIETY OFFERING $3,000 REWARD IN CASE REGARDING BOXER THROWN ONTO FREEWAY

Yesterday a red pickup truck parked on a Murray overpass on the I-15 freeway and threw a one-year-old boxer dog into the oncoming traffic below. A compassionate driver stopped, retrieved the injured animal, and took him to a veterinarian. The dog’s owner, Haley Savage, was located and notified of what happened, and is now facing medical bills of up to $1,500 to repair "Seven’s" broken jaw and other injuries that the animal suffered in the 24-foot fall from the bridge to the pavement below. While Ms. Savage’s primary reaction is thankfulness that Seven was rescued and will probably recover from his ordeal, both she and the Humane Society of Utah are also outraged that anyone could be capable of committing what HSU Executive Director Gene Baierschmidt called "an act of stupid, senseless violence."

The Humane Society is offering a reward of $3,000 to anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest and conviction of the dog-tosser. "Seven is a beloved companion animal," says Mr. Baierschmidt. "We would like to see whoever did this brought to justice."

If caught, the perpetrator could face charges of Class B misdemeanor cruelty, punishable by up to six months in jail and a fine of $1,000, and could also be held liable for the costs of Seven’s medical treatment.

Anyone having information should call the Humane Society of Utah’s Cruelty Investigation Department at 261-2919, ex. 210.
