REWARD INCREASED TO $5,000 IN PUPPY-ABANDONMENT CASE

Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, the reward being posted by the Humane Society of Utah in the case of the fourteen puppies abandoned in a Riverdale Dumpster has doubled to $5,000, says HSU Executive Director Gene Baierschmidt. Thirteen of the puppies froze and/or suffocated to death, and the sole survivor was adopted by the woman who made the horrible discovery after she heard whimpering coming from the trash receptacle.

"This was an act of unspeakable and pointless brutality," said Mr. Baierschmidt. "Those animals could have been taken to a shelter and given the chance to be adopted to loving homes. Whoever did this cruel and cowardly thing should be made to realize that these were living, feeling creatures. They weren’t old banana peels or teabags; you don’t just toss them out with the rest of the garbage if you don’t want them."

The Humane Society is hoping that the increased reward for information leading to the identification and conviction of whoever abandoned the puppies will encourage anyone with knowledge of the crime to come forward. They can call either the Humane Society of Utah at 261-2919 or the Riverdale police at 394-6616.
