OCTOBER "PET FEST" ADOPT-A-THON GALA SLATED BY HUMANE SOCIETY

The weekend of October 12-14 will feature one of the most exciting events of the social season at the Humane Society of Utah’s shelter located at 4242 South 300 West, at least as far as the four-footed crowd is concerned. For three fabulous days, hundreds of HSU’s irresistible cats, dogs, bunnies, gerbils, and other furry residents will be available for adoption, both inside the building and also in a protective tent set up on the lawns.

On Friday, October 12, the Adopt-a-Thon will be in full swing from noon to 7 PM; Saturday, October 13, activities will take place from 10 AM to 7 PM; and on the final day, Sunday, October 14, visitors can drop in from noon to 4 PM.

In addition to the animals eagerly awaiting good new homes, the "Pet Fest" gala will also feature local pet-specialty vendors who offer necessities for the animal-about-town like designer duds, boarding, grooming, and toys — and, to top off the festivities, there will even be a pet psychic and a professional pet masseuse on the scene to provide helpful hints and instructions for new adopters.

One of the most exciting attractions will be the "Course A-Lure" obstacle run in which dogs can enjoy chasing a lure over jumps and hurdles, as well as through tires, tunnels, and chutes. Bring your own dogs and let them have a fun, energetic romp in a roomy, safe playground.

"Placing these wonderful pets in loving homes of their own is our top priority," says HSU Executive Director Gene Baierschmidt. "Just the fun of getting a loyal, affectionate new family member is exciting enough, but we’re really creating a party atmosphere for this event to bring out a lot of people who might not have been thinking of getting a pet right now. Once they see these great animals, and see how many great new options are out there for enjoying their relationship with them to the fullest, they’ll wonder why they waited so long."
