CHARGES FILED IN PHEASANT KILLING AT HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAME Tuesday, October 30, 2007
The Humane Society of Utah today learned that misdemeanor charges have been filed against three individuals who were allegedly responsible for the stomping death of a pheasant on the playing field of American Fork High School during a recent football game between that school’s team and the Viewmont Vikings.

HUMANE SOCIETY TO HOST LOBBYING SEMINAR, HOPES FOR SUCCESS WITH "HENRY’S LAW" IN 2008 Wednesday, October 10, 2007
On Thursday, November 1, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, the Humane Society of Utah will host a free seminar in "Lobbying 101" at its shelter located at 4242 South 300 West. The program is organized and structured by the Humane Society of the United States located in Washington, DC. The purpose of the session, says HSU Executive Director Gene Baierschmidt, is to teach concerned citizens how they can personally help get Henry’s Law, the bill that would make deliberate torture of an animal a third-degree felony, passed in the next session of the Utah State legislature.

The weekend of October 12-14 will feature one of the most exciting events of the social season at the Humane Society of Utah’s shelter located at 4242 South 300 West, at least as far as the four-footed crowd is concerned. For three fabulous days, hundreds of HSU’s irresistible cats, dogs, bunnies, gerbils, and other furry residents will be available for adoption, both inside the building and also in a protective tent set up on the lawns.

HORRIFIED HUMANE SOCIETY OFFERS $5,000 REWARD FOR CONVICTION IN BRUTAL SLAYING OF HORSE Thursday, October 04, 2007
On the last morning of September, a Washington County rancher went to his corral to feed his two horses, both of whom had been in excellent condition the night before, and found one of them dead — riddled with almost 50 shots from a small-caliber gun. The Humane Society of Utah immediately responded to the grisly news with outrage, specifically because all the wounds were inflicted in the animal’s abdomen and back. "This horse died a slow, agonizing death," said HSU Executive Director Gene Baierschmidt. "The animal’s owner feels that the shots were purposely directed to these vulnerable areas to guarantee a great deal of suffering for the horse, ‘almost like a vendetta killing,’ in his own words."
