On Saturday, April 19th, and Sunday, April 20th, the famous Course a’Lure, as seen on Animal Planet TV, will be hosted on the spacious grounds of the Humane Society of Utah at 4242 South 300 West. You can watch dogs as they chase the lure along a protected course over jumps and through tunnels, and you can even see how well your own dog does on the course.

HSU EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO RECEIVE ALUMNI ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FROM U of U Thursday, April 03, 2008
This evening Humane Society of Utah’s Executive Director Gene Baierschmidt will be presented with the Quintus C. Wilson Alumni Achievement Award in ceremonies held at the Little America Hotel. The Wilson Award is given to former students and faculty members of the University of Utah’s Communications Department who have gone on to distinguish themselves in other areas of public service. Mr. Baierschmidt, who received his Master’s degree in communications from the University in 1981, was a Teaching Assistant in that department from 1978 to 1981.

Keeping homeless, unwanted animals from being born is one of the primary goals of the Humane Society of Utah, and last year our in-house spay and neuter clinic performed a record 10,143 sterilization surgeries on animals brought to our facility. This year, throughout the month of April, we want to do something about the many cats who don’t have anybody to care about what happens to them and their kittens.

Soft, fluffy, adorable, box-trainable, and already spayed or neutered, all of our rabbits would make wonderful companions for any household. "We urged the public not to get bunnies or other traditional Easter animals as an impulsive act right before the holiday," explains HSU Operations Manager Carlene Wall, "but now that the fuss has all died down, people may want to consider the many benefits of bringing a rabbit into a family that is prepared and willing to care properly for him or her."
