The Humane Society of Utah today expressed outrage over yesterday’s incident in which a young doe, trapped in a fence while trying to get into the Legacy Nature Preserve in North Salt Lake, was summarily shot by a police officer in spite of the pleas of civilian bystanders to find a less violent means of resolving the problem.

The Humane Society of Utah is issuing its annual appeal to the public to refrain from purchasing live bunnies, chicks, ducklings, and other traditional Easter symbols as pets at this time of year. HUMANE SOCIETY PROTESTS JUDGE’S REMARKS IN CASE OF TOO MANY DOGS Tuesday, April 11, 2006
The Humane Society of Utah today issued a strong denunciation of the comment made by Third District Court Judge Stephen Henriod at the hearing of a woman who still had seven of the eight dogs she had been ordered in October to place in other homes, since the law only allows two dogs per household. "You should have taken a gun and shot the other five dogs," the judge is reported to have said after the woman argued that she had retained possession of the animals while trying to legally challenge the two-dog-limit ordinance.
