HUMANE SOCIETY OFFERING $3,000 REWARD IN CASE REGARDING BOXER THROWN ONTO FREEWAY Friday, March 28, 2008
Yesterday a red pickup truck parked on a Murray overpass on the I-15 freeway and threw a one-year-old boxer dog into the oncoming traffic below. A compassionate driver stopped, retrieved the injured animal, and took him to a veterinarian. The dog’s owner, Haley Savage, was located and notified of what happened, and is now facing medical bills of up to $1,500 to repair "Seven’s" broken jaw and other injuries that the animal suffered in the 24-foot fall from the bridge to the pavement below.

HUMANE SOCIETY: LIVE ANIMALS AS EASTER PETS A TERRIBLE IDEA Wednesday, March 19, 2008
The Humane Society of Utah is issuing its annual appeal to the public to refrain from purchasing live bunnies, chicks, ducklings, and other traditional Easter symbols as pets at this time of year. "Most city-dwelling children don't know how to handle or care for baby fowl or rabbits, who often become the victims of unintentional but nevertheless cruel abuse," said HSU Executive Director Gene Baierschmidt.

Today history was made in the Utah State Legislature when SB 297, the compromise bill that makes the deliberate torture of a cat or dog a third-degree felony on the first offense, passed in the House of Representatives by a vote of 62-6, with 7 members absent, after having gone through the Senate with 21 supporting votes and only 6 opposed.

HUMANE SOCIETY OFFERS SPECIAL ON HEARTWORM TESTING Monday, March 03, 2008
Starting tomorrow, March 4th, and continuing through the end of the month, the Humane Society of Utah will be offering heartworm tests for dogs at a special price of only $15 per dog instead of the regular $21 fee at the Society's clinic, if at the same time the animal’s caregiver also purchases a one-year’s supply of Tri-Heart heartworm preventive medication.
