HUMANE SOCIETY SCHEDULES PRESS CONFERENCE Monday, February 26, 2007
The Humane Society of Utah has scheduled a press conference to be held at noon on Tuesday, February 27, in the main lobby of the House building. The purpose is to emphasize the importance of getting SB 190, known as "Henry’s Bill," out of the House Rules Committee and onto the House floor to be voted on before the legislative session expires on February 28.

SB 190, FELONY-LEVEL ANIMAL TORTURE BILL, PASSES 3RD READING IN UTAH SENATE Friday, February 23, 2007
In a move lauded by many, the Utah State Senate today passed by a vote of 18-9 SB 190, a bill making the intentional torture of an animal, like the recent case of Henry, the dog who was put into a hot oven for five minutes, a third-degree felony. The legislation will now go to the House of Representatives for final approval.

"HENRY’S HEROES" GET SB 190 PASSED IN SECONDSENATE READING Thursday, February 22, 2007
SB 190, the bill making the deliberate torture of an animal a third-degree felony, today passed its second Senate reading by a vote of 15-11 and tomorrow morning will have its third reading. If it passes there, it will then go to the House of Representatives to be heard, if there is time before the Legislature adjourns on February 28th.

HB 342, "PROTECTIVE ORDER REVISIONS," INCLUDING PETS IN PROTECTIVE ORDERS, PASSES SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE Monday, February 19, 2007
Officials of the Humane Society of Utah today expressed their satisfaction with the passage of a law prepared by Rep. Scott Wyatt (R-Logan) which would extend the coverage of protective orders issued by courts to include household pets as well as spouses and children. Recent studies have indicated that many women remain in abusive relationships, rather than seeking shelter, out of fear that their batterers would harm or kill pets left behind.

SB 190, “HENRY’S LAW,” PASSES IN SENATE COMMITTEE Friday, February 02, 2007
Today the Utah Senate Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Environment Committee passed SB 190, a bill which would make the deliberate torture of an animal a third-degree felony, by a vote of 4 to 3. An important element at the hearing was the presence of Henry, the dog who had been put into a hot oven last year and who became the "poster boy" for proponents of the bill.
