On Friday, February 2, at 8:00 A.M., a very special guest will appear before the Senate Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Environment Committee in Room W015 of the West Office Building in the State Capitol complex to present mute testimony for the passage of SB 190, a bill which would make the intentional torture of an animal a third-degree felony in Utah.

Why Utah needs tougher laws should be obvious because of the recent case involving Henry the dog, when Marc Christopher Vincent admitted to having chased and cornered his wife’s Chihuahuah-mix puppy with a leaf blower, putting out the dog’s left eye, and later placing Henry in a 200° oven for five minutes. Such unspeakable acts should not be tolerated in our society.

HUMANE SOCIETY HAS RECORD YEAR FOR ADOPTIONS, SPAY/NEUTER SURGERIES Tuesday, January 02, 2007
The Humane Society of Utah set a new record in 2006 for adopting animals to good new homes and also for preventing unwanted animals from being born in the first place. The shelter placed 6,116 dogs and cats with families of their own, a 3.9% increase over the record set the previous year, and surgically sterilized almost 10,000 animals. This was the most ever done in a single year, 5.9% more than in 2005, which had also been a record.

GREAT "JANUARY WHITE SALE" IN PROGRESS AT HUMANE SOCIETY! Monday, January 01, 2007
From now through the end of the month, the Humane Society of Utah is having a "January White Sale," during which time any dog or cat (except for "VIP" animals) whose coat is at least 50% white can be adopted for half the usual fee. Says Executive Director Gene Baierschmidt, "Now that the hectic holiday season is over, this is a great time to introduce a new pet into the family.
