Humane Society of Utah 2023 Fundraiser

The Humane Society of Utah is the largest private nonprofit animal shelter in the state. We rely solely on donations from individuals like you and small fees for some services. We do not receive any state or federal funding and are not a branch of any national organization. We are an open-admission shelter, meaning that we will admit any companion animal that we can legally accept. We work hard to ensure that every healthy and treatable pet that enters our facility is placed in a loving home.

In 2022, our Pet Resource Center found homes for 5,097 companion animals. Our clinics performed 10,746 spays/neuters and administered 142,529 vaccinations. HSU continues to invest in keeping families together and animals out of the shelter through our Pet Retention program. In 2022 HSU distributed over 150,000 pounds of pet food to community pet food pantries, rescue groups, and reservations. Additionally, 499 families were given medical resources to keep their beloved pets.

It costs an average of $30/day/animal, and healthy, treatable pets can stay at our pet resource center for as long as it takes to find a new home. However, it can cost an average of $100 to intake an animal, including their first set of age-appropriate vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, and the first day of food and housing.
